1st dog obedience training day today for me & Leo and it seemed I was more confused than the dog was!
As suspected I am to blame for the dog's obsession with football in the middle of the night keeping everyone awake lol. I thought it was the dog who was to be trained but no it was me who had to be trained in how to speak and my actions in relation to the dog. 1st thing I was told to do when back home was to remove all balls or any toy resembling a ball to be kept outside the house (he does have far too many to be fair!).
The trainer said the dog was the alpha male in the house and I had to gain top dog status to learn to control Leo. And so we began by trying to make him sit/stay in one position while I walked away and then command the dog to come to me. Well that was the theory anyway. Every time I commanded Leo to sit/stay or come to me he either looked at me indifferently or raced over to discuss dog issues with a labrador behind me and the trainer. The trainer not surprisingly instantly gained control and got Leo to do what she wanted on cue - he was the perfect pooch with her...sigh.
I've got a lot to learn over the next few weeks me thinks.
Just hope Leo doesn't try and scratch his way out the door tonight to get to his beloved footballs!
Until our next training session,

Time for training for me and the dog...
Welcome to my dog training blog. As me and my dog Leo, a Blue Roan Cocker Spaniel are about to attend dog training school tomorrow I thought I would log our progress or lack of it here. Hopefully it will be informative and funny at the same time. No doubt embarrassing moments will be endured by me as I try to control the little fella as he tries to thwart my every attempt to train him lol.
Now like most Cocker Spaniel's he is very merry and quite mad! The reason he is in for training is because of his obsession with playing football 24/7 all day every day if he could. Now this might not sound too bad of a problem. However it is when he is meowing (only word to describe it) in the middle of the night coz he wants a game of footy!
So will the training cure Leo's football obsession or will it make it worse. I will let you know after our first session scheduled for tomorrow.
Until tomorrow
